چکیده

(Dated: February 2, 2008) We develop a systematic approach to calculating the electrostatic force between point charges in an arbitrary geometry with arbitrary boundary conditions. When the boundary is present, the simple expression for the force acting on a charge as “the charge times the field it is placed in” becomes ill-defined. However, this rule can be salvaged if the field in question is redefined to include all the terms that do not diverge at the charge position, in particular, those due to the charge itself. The proof requires handling the self-action energy divergence for point charges, which is accomplished by means of a geometrical regularization.

The thermodynamic interaction of a free Fermion system is alternatively described by the coupling of particles with the vacuum of a scalar pseudo boson which features a self-interaction. The proper temperature is shown as a Lorentz scalar in a Lorentz invariant framework. At thermodynamic equilibrium, the Lorentz transformation of temperature is investigated based on the conceptions of the rela...

M ay 2 00 9 Subtleties on energy calculations in the image method

In this pedagogical work we point out a subtle mistake that can be done by undergraduate or graduate students in the computation of the electrostatic energy of a system containing charges and perfect conductors if they naively use the image method. Specifically, we show that naive expressions for the electrostatic energy for these systems obtained directly from the image method are wrong by a f...

Standard formulae of classical electromagnetism for the forces between electric charges in motion derived from retarded potentials are compared with those obtained from a recently developed relativistic classical electrodynamic theory with an instantaneous inter-charge force. Problems discussed include small angle Ruther-ford scattering, Jackson's recent 'torque paradox' and circular Keplerian ...
